About Our Studio

OCY offers transformative yoga classes rooted in ancient tradition for the modern Western practitioner. Our mission is to facilitate the holistic well being of every student and to thereby optimize the overall health and wellbeing of our community.

What You Need to Know Before Attending a Class

  • We encourage you to register online as space is limited. However, drop-ins are always welcome!

  • The studio door will be open at least 15 minutes prior to class start times. Arrive early! Give yourself enough time to hang up your coat, take off your shoes and socks, and turn off your cell phone. You’ll also want to give yourself a few extra minutes to lay out your mat, gather props, and bring your breath to an even and steady pace.

  • Classes start on time, and the front door will be locked once class begins. This policy ensures uninterrupted class time and security.

  • Please leave your shoes, coats, backpacks, etc. in the "coat room" at the top of the first flight of stairs. Removing your shoes before entering is an easy and courteous way to keep the studio floor free of bacteria, chemicals, and other harmful substances that can be found on the soles of shoes. It is also a sign of respect that the studio is a sacred space for those who practice here regularly.

  • Please bring water bottles that can be securely tightened to prevent spilling.

  • Practicing non-violence (ahimsa) at the studio means coming into the space in a peaceful way. Please be gentle in voice, movement, actions, thought, and attitude. Many students come to yoga for a safe, uplifting, truthful environment. Hopefully, this gentle way of approaching and being will dissipate negativity not only during yoga class but in other areas of our lives as well.
  • People from all faith traditions are welcome. Yoga is a spiritual practice that can be compatible with other beliefs or practices you already partake in. In yoga, there is no belief required. Yoga is about open inquiry rather than belief.

  • Sanskrit mantras are a part of the yoga tradition. If you choose not to participate in the chanting of mantras, including "OM", we don't mind at all! We do ask that you please remain silent as the mantras are chanted.

  • OCY states in the strongest terms our commitment to inclusivity and diversity and our ongoing determination to provide a welcoming and inclusive environment for all students, community members, and guests of the studio, regardless of age, color, ability, gender, gender expression, gender identity, genetic information, national origin, race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, or veteran status.

  • We’re so happy you’re here. Whether you come here to find pain relief, learn to relax, or feel a stronger sense of community, know that you are here for all the right reasons, and your timing is perfect. Welcome to the community!
